Sara Khan, Lead Commissioner for the Commission for Countering Extremism, said:
“Today we are again reminded of the threat we face from terrorism. My heart goes out to the victims, their loved ones and all those affected by the horrific attack at London Bridge. I’m grateful for the Police’s swift response to the incident and the immense bravery of those at the scene.
“I have been looking into the impact of hateful extremism in our country and the current response. We do not yet know the motives behind the attack – this is a critical question for the ongoing investigation. We cannot, however, allow hatred to divide us as a nation; together we must challenge hateful beliefs and ideologies wherever and whoever they come from. This includes those who are already exploiting this attack to incite and amplify hatred.”
