Lead Commissioner for Countering Extremism Sara Khan has welcomed the government's announcement of an independent review of Prevent, its anti-radicalisation strategy.
Ben Wallace, the Security Minister, announced the review during a debate on Tuesday on the Counterterrorism and Border Security Bill in the House of Commons.
Sara Khan said:
“I welcome the announcement of an independent review of Prevent. Prevent is an important pillar of the Government’s Counter-Terrorism strategy.
"At a time when the threat of terrorism in our country stands at severe, it is in everyone’s interest that it is working effectively and not in a way that could be perceived as being counter-productive.
"I have said before I believe the implementation of Prevent can be improved and that more can be done to reassure communities.
"We must create a space for a civilised and respectful debate to ensure our response in preventing terrorism is proportionate and effective.”
